Property, Shares, and AI in Web 3.0 / Bryan Ventura Ep 388
To understand wealth better, we need to learn more about money, and how it could evolve in the future. Today we’re going to speculate on how we may one day invest in property, shares, and use a new type of leverage using AI in a future state of the internet called Web 3.0.
Today, I’m talking with Bryan Ventura. Bryan is a seasoned funds and financial services lawyer with a deep understanding of fintech, blockchain, and Web 3.0. Bryan’s expertise covers corporate and commercial law, startups, venture capital, mergers and acquisitions, investment products, property, and, trust me, so much more.

Armed with its own IP, Hamilton-based car charging innovator Hikotron is rolling out a national network of charge points. NZDD, Social Recovery: 2023 in Review, Ep 387
In New Zealand recently, for example, we’ve seen a new government come to power who’ve decided to restore some of the tax rules that made property investment a viable asset class in the past. We’re also getting much-needed tax cuts, which may offset the pain from inflation for those carrying the biggest load. Our central bank is being given a much more narrow and simplified mandate—focus on inflation. How good is that They’ll soon have one job to do – So there’s hope that both the RBNZ and the government will do a better job of dealing with inflation in the future. As investors, this means more stable interest rates. It’s about confidence. Read more

Climate Leaders Coalition turns five – Jolie Hodson of Spark and Mike Burrell, SBC
The Climate Leaders Coalition turned five years old. Its signatories, which include some of NZ’s largest polluters, are a group of 88 companies that have committed to climate agenda and they’ve notched up some impressive achievements. Collectively they’ve reduced emissions by 3.6 million tonnes, that’s a nearly 30% percent reduction since 2018.
And, this one that I found surprising, 97% of signatories have identified and measured their scope 3 emissions. To discuss the coalition, its five-year milestone and how it sees a future under a new government, Vincent was joined by convenor Jolie Hodson, CEO of Spark, and by Mike Burrell, of the Sustainable Business Council.

What’s behind the sunny spell in solar power? Matt Ward, solarZero
Every 35 minutes solarZero installs a new residential solar system. It plans to invest $1 billion in new solar and battery systems over the next decade and already has 12,000 installations. It made headlines this time last year when it was acquired by Blackrock, the world’s largest investors. And in September just gone, the government-owned NZ Green Investment Finance invested $80m alongside two other funds. In other words, solarZero is on the march. The 15 year dream of Andrew Booth is now mainstream.. How does it work, why is it attracting so much capital, and how does it reconcile being owned by one of the largest coal and fossil fuel investors in the world?
Vincent spoke to chief executive Matt Ward.

Around the world in an ETS – Ian Parry, IMF
Ian Parry is the Environmental Fiscal Policy Expert at the International Monetary Fund. He came to speak at a series of events in New Zealand about tax. It doesn’t get more exciting than that. But there’s more. Ian is a specialist in carbon pricing, emission trading schemes, and the role of fiscal policy in climate mitigation. The timing couldn’t be better, with New Zealand wrestling with changes to the ETS, price drops and then recovery in the carbon market, and growing skepticism about the veracity of offsetting and claims about carbon neutrality. He spoke to Vincent.

Pushing Past Progressive Education, Ep 382
If our behaviours are the end state, before that was a tactical decision around what actions would be engaged in to invest. That ties into a strategy, which comes about after considering what the best approach would be to achieve your goals. How did the goals get there? Well, chances are, there’s something about you that’s unique. Each of us has a ‘special mission’ if you like – in fact, without occasionally considering our purpose, even though we achieve our goals, we’re never happy. Ready to tackle your own strategy? RBNZ: All Care & No Accountability, Ep 380 Michael Reddell
Unelected, ideological economists using outdated economics have, in my opinion, over the past 3 years set in motion a chain of events that will cost billions to fix. Considering we can’t vote for them, we should be critical of them. Read more here.
